Who is Doc Nkem?

Dr. Nkem Ugonabo, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Nkem Ugonabo, M.D., M.P.H. is a board-certified dermatologist with advanced training in cosmetic dermatology and lasers.

She received her Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, M.D. degree at the University of Michigan, and M.P.H from Harvard School of Public Health. She also completed her Dermatology training at NYU Medical Center and was appointed Chief Resident in her final year. At residency graduation, she was awarded the Dr. Irwin Freedberg award for the resident who best represents the field of dermatology. Following residency, Dr. Ugonabo was an American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellow at UnionDerm in New York City where she led clinical trials investigating the treatment of acne scars, photodamage, cellulite, muscle stimulation and melasma with lasers.

Dr. Ugonabo currently practices both medical and cosmetic dermatology and has extensive experience using lasers, injectables like botox and fillers, fat loss treatments, skin tightening, chemical peels, sunscreens and other forms of photo-protection, acne, and hyperpigmentation. She also works as an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Division of Dermatology where she enjoys teaching and mentoring residents and medical students. She strives to make her patients look and feel like the best version of themselves. She takes the time to listen, answer questions, address concerns, and uniquely tailor treatment plans to the individual needs of each patient.

Dr. Ugonabo has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of American Medical Association Surgery, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology and Journal of Drugs in Dermatology.

She has presented at numerous meetings including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Annual Meeting, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) Annual Conference, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Annual Meeting and Winter Clinical Dermatology Conference. She has also been featured in many media publications like the Today Show, GMA, NBC News, Shape, Allure, Women’s Health, Bustle, Marie Claire, Elite Daily, The Greatist, Huffington Post, and more. She is a member of the AAD, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), ASLMS, Skin of Color Society (SOCS), the Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) and International Peeling Society (IPS). She also serves on national leadership committees on the AAD, SOCS and WDS.

I went to see Dr. Nkem Ugonabo and I was blown away by her professionalism as well as by the facility. Dr. Ugonabo listened to my concerns very carefully and really took the time to treat my skin. Dr. Ugonabo is AMAZING!! She has a wonderful energy and spirit, and she came up with a great plan to address my concerns. She selected the appropriate chemical peel for my skin type and was very thorough. My skin is glowing!! I’m a dermatologist myself, and I’m very picky about who I choose to perform procedures on my skin. I cannot recommend Dr. Ugonabo enough. Run, don’t walk!!

Dr. Ugonabo is so essential! I had a visit with her after I've been dealing with acne for most of my life. She recommended the VI Term chemical peel. Which worked fantastic! I've seen major improvement. She was very patient and knowledgable! i would highly recommend.
